New filleting line
We're introducing our new BAADER machine. This is how we process our cod into delicious fillets. Straight from the sea to your plate!
On track for 2021!
What's a look ahead without a look back at the past year? So, first, a brief look back at 2020, before we continue full steam ahead with our plans for 2021.
2020:
2020 will go down as a remarkable year. It was a year in which we had to rely on our creativity more than ever. The world suddenly ground to a halt due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Besides ensuring a healthy team, we also had to care for the company and our relationships. Our strategy? Adapt quickly, make new plans, and keep going.
Fortunately, 2020 also brought us many wonderful moments. We felt more connected than ever to our customers, suppliers, and business partners. We could count on each other's support.
One of the highlights of 2020 for us is also the partnership we entered into with Ekofish. This allows us to guarantee a sustainable catch and superb quality right from the source.
But what makes us happiest? It's all the pearls from the sea we've been able to deliver to you. Chalk-white skreef fillet, Oosterschelde lobsters, delicious Hollandaise new. All equally beautiful. Super-fast delivery of a high-quality, wide selection will remain just as important to Adri & Zoon in 2021.
2021:
2021 will be a challenging year. We want to focus more on:
• Data provision;
• Customer-friendly, but faster ordering procedures;
• Further professionalization of our filleting facilities.
We're seeing increasing interest in knowledge sharing and data provision. We're responding to this by further optimizing our webshop. While the webshop primarily provides ease of ordering, it also increasingly needs to offer comprehensive product specifications. This way, we can provide you with even more peace of mind. You can have all the conveniences at the touch of a button.
And last but not least, we're taking another look at our filleting facilities and the associated waste processing. Because yes, there's always room for improvement. We're starting 2021 strong. Our filleting facilities will be immediately equipped with the most innovative techniques from the cutting world (follow our social media channels for the scoop). This way, we'll make you and our filleters happy, and together we'll reduce waste.
The Adri & Zoon team wishes you all the best for 2021!
Frozen is the new fresh – Golden Ocean
Winter is over, summer is on its way. Everything is in bloom, the days are longer, and the temperature is rising. Yet, Adri & Zoon is obsessed with frost. Frozen fish, to be precise, because it turns out the frost has a tremendous positive effect on our fish.
Adri & Zoon has a passion for fish, and what's better than fresh fish? The fresher, the tastier, and the healthier, you might think. However, that's not always the case. On the other hand, freezing fresh fish at the right time extends its shelf life and keeps it fresh!
Freezing is natural.
Freezing fish, or other food, is a natural process. This is perhaps the best part; we don't need to add anything to the fish to extend its shelf life. The fish gets so cold that microorganisms don't grow well and enzyme activity is slowed down. This means the product has a much longer shelf life.
Nutritional values remain.
So, freezing fish doesn't sound that crazy, but what does it do to the nutritional values? Is frozen fish just as healthy as fresh fish? The answer is short and sweet: yes! Several studies even show that the nutritional values of frozen products are better than those of their fresh counterparts. This is because the food is frozen at the peak of freshness. By freezing the fish at the right moment, vitamins and minerals are preserved. So, by 'freeze-fresh,' we really mean 'freeze-fresh'!
Always fresh fish.
The freezing process ensures we can enjoy freshness for longer. This also means we're not tied to the availability of fresh fish. Fresh fish is always available, frozen or not. A great solution for consumers; they're no longer tied to location or season.
Which princely fish will you choose?
Looking back on a fantastic year
Well, looking back on 2019, where do you even begin? A lot has happened at Adri & Zoon. The year has flown by, and we've made many customers happy with our fish, shellfish, and crustaceans. We'd like to take you on a brief look back at the past year.
New Premises
It was the subject of much conversation: our new construction project. And rightly so, because we had been looking forward to it for months and have kept you regularly updated. 2019 was therefore the year we put on our 'new coat'. As a result, we can serve you even better. And with our new premises came a test kitchen with a magnificent view of the Oosterschelde. Haven't you seen our test kitchen yet? We would be delighted to invite you to an interesting workshop or a delicious tasting.
Sustainability:
Our building is fully constructed according to BREEAM sustainability standards. But that's not the only way we've taken responsibility for a more sustainable world. By adapting our transportation, we significantly reduced our CO2 emissions. We also replaced our plastic packaging with a largely cardboard version. This is much easier to separate and significantly reduces our plastic consumption.
Sustainability was an important theme in 2019, but will remain at least as important for Adri & Zoon in 2020.
At Adri & Zoon we were on track and we aim to stay that way in the coming year!
For now: a very happy New Year and a very good 2020!
Fish in a sustainable jacket
Sustainability is a key priority at Adri & Zoon. For example, we consult with the Good Fish Foundation if we have any concerns about our fish supply. Our new building is constructed according to BREEAM criteria, and we aim to replace our Styrofoam fish crates with recyclable monoplastic.
New Packaging
Eco-friendly packaging is trending. We will soon be introducing our new cardboard mussel packaging. With this new packaging, we save a remarkable 85% of plastic. A large portion has been replaced by cardboard, which is easy to separate from a thin layer of film. Both materials are easy to separate and recycle.
What is MAP packaging?
MAP packaging is an environmentally conscious concept. We package the fish under a protective atmosphere. With MAP packaging, we ensure a long shelf life in a natural way. It is a wonderful replacement for the Styrofoam packaging we used to have, because the new packaging takes up much less space, significantly reduces Styrofoam usage, is recyclable, and requires less energy. Furthermore, with Styrofoam boxes, the ice machine uses drinking water to cover the fish. In short: MAP packaging is a product that Adri & Zoon is eager to continue using.
Packaging in a sustainable building.
Our warehouse is where it all begins and where the fish is packaged. The new facility was built according to BREEAM criteria. This means we demonstrably meet requirements for health, welfare, pollution, and materials used, among other things. We are already using MAP packaging in the new production facility. We package a significant portion of our salmon fillets in MAP crates.
This is how we work step by step towards a responsible, environmentally conscious and sustainable working method!
