Fish in a sustainable jacket
Sustainability is a key priority at Adri & Zoon. For example, we consult with the Good Fish Foundation if we have any concerns about our fish supply. Our new building is constructed according to BREEAM criteria, and we aim to replace our Styrofoam fish crates with recyclable monoplastic.
New Packaging
Eco-friendly packaging is trending. We will soon be introducing our new cardboard mussel packaging. With this new packaging, we save a remarkable 85% of plastic. A large portion has been replaced by cardboard, which is easy to separate from a thin layer of film. Both materials are easy to separate and recycle.
What is MAP packaging?
MAP packaging is an environmentally conscious concept. We package the fish under a protective atmosphere. With MAP packaging, we ensure a long shelf life in a natural way. It is a wonderful replacement for the Styrofoam packaging we used to have, because the new packaging takes up much less space, significantly reduces Styrofoam usage, is recyclable, and requires less energy. Furthermore, with Styrofoam boxes, the ice machine uses drinking water to cover the fish. In short: MAP packaging is a product that Adri & Zoon is eager to continue using.
Packaging in a sustainable building.
Our warehouse is where it all begins and where the fish is packaged. The new facility was built according to BREEAM criteria. This means we demonstrably meet requirements for health, welfare, pollution, and materials used, among other things. We are already using MAP packaging in the new production facility. We package a significant portion of our salmon fillets in MAP crates.
This is how we work step by step towards a responsible, environmentally conscious and sustainable working method!
