Our quality marks

Sustainable and responsible

Sustainably farmed and responsibly caught.
At Adri & Zoon , we offer various products with a sustainability label. The MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) label is found on all fish products sourced from sustainable fisheries. The ASC (Aquaculture Stewardship Council) label indicates that shellfish, crustaceans, as well as seaweed and farmed fish, have been cultivated in a responsible manner. Adri & Zoon pays particular attention to ensuring that the focus remains on sustainable fishing. We also actively reduce the environmental impact of fish farming. Our suppliers use various sustainable fishing techniques to prevent seabed damage, among other things. For example, sole is caught using hooks, lines, and twin rigging, a modern fishing technique using special nets.

Our mussels are Certainly Zeeuws.
Our mussels have been awarded the "Zeurde Zeeuws" quality mark, which guarantees that the mussels are farmed sustainably and according to certain standards. We believe it's important to keep you informed about the changes taking place in the mussel sector regarding innovation and sustainability. This allows us to offer our customers a pure, honest, sustainable, and high-quality product.

Cooperation

Catching techniques of the Ekofish Plaice

Adri & Zoon 's North Sea plaice is 100% untreated and caught with respect for nature. We've been collaborating with Ekofish in Urk for several years now. Ekofish uses an innovative fishing system that respectfully catches and processes the plaice. Nets with larger mesh sizes and escape panels are used during the fishing process, allowing young fish to escape.

The seabed is protected by twin-rig nets equipped with floating boards and rubber cables. The plaice are first stunned and then killed. Subsequently, great care is taken in processing and storing the fish. The modern fleet of Urk-based Ekofish meets the highest hygiene and refrigeration standards.

Testing and optimization

Working methods and packaging continuously improved

At Adri & Zoon the percentage of residual products is minimal. Every residual product is filtered and categorized from the production hall. This includes kibbeling (fried fish), pet food, and supplements. We've taken a step toward reducing food waste and improving product quality. This starts at the source, of course! But production also plays a significant role. We're also testing various alternative packaging options to improve product quality and extend shelf life.

Green energy

Future-proof new building

Energy conservation and sustainability are encouraged

Adri & Zoon has created a sustainable building that is energy-efficient and helps increase productivity. We therefore opted for a future-proof construction that adheres to the BREEAM-NL standard. BREEAM stands for Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method. This standard was introduced 20 years ago to promote truly sustainable construction. Various scores can be achieved based on assessments. Adri & Zoon aims to achieve the "excellent" certificate.

To this end, we have implemented the following changes, among others:

Fishmonger
Our cooling system uses the environmentally friendly refrigerant NH3 (ammonia)
The office is heated by VRF and WTW units
PV panels have been installed on our roof to compensate for energy used

Logistics

Sustainability, even on the go

The government is increasingly focusing on reducing emissions in transport and transportation. This is also a key priority for us. Naturally, this also impacts Adri & Zoon's fleet.

The Adri & Zoon logistics team is always up-to-date on the latest trends in sustainability. Every year, they research a new approach. This includes limiting the number of trips and increasing the amount of cargo per vehicle. In recent years, sustainability and safety have been a key consideration when purchasing our transport equipment. However, efficient fuel consumption and fuel-efficient driving are also crucial. Our drivers receive annual training in safe and fuel-efficient driving.

Every month, scores are shared with the drivers regarding who drove the most efficiently and economically. This information is tracked by the onboard computer in every vehicle in our fleet. We also prioritize short, fast, and therefore economical routes during planning, ensuring safe driving. If necessary Adri & Zoon 's experienced drivers make well-considered adjustments.

In recent years, we've also carefully considered the market when purchasing necessary equipment. Our newest trailers are equipped with modern features such as work lights on the loading and unloading platforms. They also feature refrigeration units with dual evaporators for transporting multi-temperature products (separate freezer and refrigerated). The trailers are equipped with cooling curtains to prevent all the cold from escaping when the doors are opened. This reduces the fuel consumption of the refrigeration unit to return to the correct set temperature, which benefits the quality of our products.

For safety, our drivers always carry a key fob with an emergency button. If a driver becomes unwell, falls, or is in an emergency, they can press this button. The scheduling department is immediately called, and the driver's GPS location is mapped instantly. This allows immediate action to be taken.
